INSPIRING WOMEN
“I got excited
about wearing
makeup again.
I had so much fun,
I forgot I was sick”

The transformation is empowering
Donna McGrath, a 38-year-old esthetician, thought she knew
everything there was to know about putting on makeup. She
agreed to go to a Look Good Feel Better workshop only because
a fellow breast cancer patient didn’t want to go alone. Donna is
thankful she went. “I learned how to tie scarves and wear hats,
which I put into practice time and time again when I lost my hair,”
says Donna, “and I got excited about wearing makeup again. I had
so much fun, I forgot I was sick.”
The clients at Donna’s salon have been amazed at her
transformation. Donna says that before taking the workshop she
never bothered with how she looked in the morning. “Now I take
my sweet time getting ready,” says Donna. “When I arrive at work,
my hair is styled and sometimes I’ve got sparkles on my eyes, and
my clients say, ‘Look at you.’ It’s something I do just for me.”
When Rosetta Weston was diagnosed with breast cancer last
year at the age of 54, her biggest fear was losing her eyebrows.
“I had this vision of me drawing a line for my
eyebrows and looking like a clown,” says Rosetta,
who shared her concerns with a nurse at the
hospital. The nurse suggested she attend a
Look Good Feel Better workshop, but Rosetta
immediately dismissed the idea, saying that
she didn’t really wear makeup. The nurse said,
“Trust me, just go.”
“When I walked into the workshop,
I was thinking to myself, ‘Why am
I here?’” says Rosetta. “But as other
women started to show up and the room
became fi lled with conversation, my fears
washed away. Now I tell women that the
workshop is an introduction to a whole new
world for them.”
It’s about taking time for you
Committing two hours to a Look Good
Feel Better workshop is about investing
time in yourself and your own well-being,
according to many of the women who
have benefi ted from the program.
“Before I got cancer, I never used to
spend a lot of time on myself,” says Ray.
“I hadn’t worn makeup for so long that
when I left the workshop I looked better
than I usually did. I felt pretty. Looking
good has become routine.” >
