COVER-UP
Concealer and foundation can subtly even out skin
tone and texture and will offset the sallowness,
skin discoloration and dark under-eye circles that
can result from cancer treatment. Facial powder
sets foundation to make it last longer
Concealer
> Starting at inner eye corner and working outward toward the
iris, apply dots of concealer under eye using a clean ring fi nger
or a disposable wedge makeup sponge.
> With your fi nger or sponge, patting gently in a feathering
motion, blend concealer to outer eye corner and up to lash line.
> Colour-correcting concealer can also smooth out any changes
in pigmentation on your eyelids.
Foundation
> Cancer treatment can temporarily alter your skin colour, so
you may need to look for a new shade of foundation. When
shopping for a foundation, test it on your jawline in daylight
to get a good match.
> With clean fi ngers or a wedge makeup sponge, apply dots of
foundation to forehead, nose, chin and cheeks, then blend
outward and downward from the centre of your face to the
edge. Blend well at hairline and jawline.
> For sheer coverage, blend with a damp makeup sponge.
Powder
> Using a clean cotton ball, lightly dust loose translucent powder
over the centre of your face.
> Gently sweep downward and outward to remove excess and
to smooth any facial hair.
> Carry pressed powder for touch-ups.
CONCEALER: YOUR SECRET AGENT
COSMETIC
HYGIENE
LOOKING GOOD
During cancer treatment,
your weakened immune
system is vulnerable to
infection. You need to be
more vigilant about skin
care and cosmetic hygiene.
Make sure your hands are
scrupulously clean when
cleansing or applying
makeup. Use cotton
swabs for eyeshadow and
mini–plastic spatulas for
moisturizers. Have your own
products, and don’t share
with your kids or others.
Some other reminders:
Wash hands frequently
with soap and warm water
and don’t share towels
and washcloths.
Use an electric shaver
instead of a razor to
prevent cutting your skin.
It’s important not to cut
cuticles — instead, soften
them with cuticle cream
every day to prevent
dryness, splitting and
hangnails.
Concealer can be your best friend when you want to minimize dark under-eye circles and changes
in skin pigmentation — it can also form a base for eyeshadow application.
